### SEO Software projects, `productMode`, and `POST /projects`

Ranked AI now has a self-serve tier: **SEO Software** projects the account runs itself (rank tracking, AI visibility prompts, audits, backlinks, heatmaps, integrations, reports), billed as prepaid blocks of $4.99/month per 100 tracked keywords or 100 AI prompts, one plan per account. Managed-service projects are unchanged, and their plans include the whole software suite at no extra cost.

**REST API**

- Every project payload carries `productMode`: `managed` or `software`
- `GET /projects` accepts `?product_mode=managed|software`
- New [`POST /projects`](https://www.ranked.ai/developers/api-reference/projects/create) creates a software project from a website URL (write key). No plan or payment is needed to create it; the response says whether the account's software plan is active and where to add one, and carries an `addServiceUrl` for upgrading the project to the managed service later
- Content endpoints return no items for software projects (there is no content pipeline without the service)

**MCP**

- New write tool `ranked_create_software_project`
- `ranked_get_project_overview` reports each project's `productMode`; accounts with software projects also get `softwarePlan` and, per software project, `addServiceUrl`
- The content tools (`ranked_request_topic`, `ranked_approve_content`, `ranked_request_revision`, `ranked_update_content_preferences`, `ranked_update_publishing_preferences`) explain the managed-service upgrade on software projects instead of acting

The MCP integration is now 22 tools (11 read, 11 write).

### MCP: modern protocol support, new endpoint URL, and traffic tools

**New canonical endpoint**

The MCP server now lives at `https://app.ranked.ai/api/mcp`. The previous URL (`/api/mcp/sse`) keeps working forever — existing connections don't need to change. Use the new URL for new setups.

**Modern protocol support**

The server now speaks the current MCP revisions alongside the legacy ones:

- Supports the stateless `2026-07-28` revision, including `server/discover`
- Negotiates the protocol version your client requests (`2025-03-26` through `2026-07-28`; legacy `2024-11-05` clients are unaffected)
- Fixes connection failures in clients that rolled out the 2026 spec — most visibly Claude custom connectors, which could complete OAuth but never finish connecting

**New tools**

- `ranked_get_search_console_metrics` — Google Search Console impressions, clicks, CTR, and top queries over any window (trailing days or exact dates)
- `ranked_get_analytics_metrics` — Google Analytics sessions, users, page views, and channel breakdown over any window

The MCP integration is now 21 tools (11 read, 10 write).

**Faster and smoother**

- `ranked_get_project_overview` answers several times faster (its queries now run in parallel)
- The server returns usage instructions with the handshake, so connected AI tools use the right call order on the first try
- Rate limiting no longer applies to connection handshakes, only to tool calls

- HMAC-SHA256 signature verification
- Automatic retry with exponential backoff
- SSRF protection on webhook URLs

**MCP Integration**
- 18 MCP tools (10 read, 8 write)
