Adding Prompts

Prompts are how we track your AI visibility, meaning how often your website shows up in the answers and citations that AI search engines give.

To add prompts to your projects, go to the Rankings tab on your project. Prompts are in the sub tab section, next to Keywords.

Then, go to the '+ Add Prompts' button to add one prompt per line.

Select your country for targeting. Tip: if you are a local business, make sure to include the city/town/state in the prompt.

When done, click the 'Add Prompts' box to submit them. Prompt results take a few minutes to come through.

Fan out a seed

Not sure which prompts to track? On the Add Prompts page, switch to Fan out a seed, type one keyword or question (for example 'tree removal' or 'Best plumber in Austin?') and click Generate ideas. We generate the related questions buyers actually ask AI assistants around it, each with an intent label and an estimated monthly AI volume, and leave out anything you already track. Tick the ones you want and add them like any other prompt.

For a local business, pick your location first: every idea names it exactly the way your prompts do. Already tracking a prompt you'd like more of? Open its results and click Fan out this prompt.

Searches ChatGPT ran

When ChatGPT answers one of your prompts, it first runs a few web searches of its own. Open a prompt's results and look under the ChatGPT answer: Searches ChatGPT ran lists them, and each one has a Track button to follow it as a prompt of its own. These are the questions the model really asks on your clients' behalf, so they're worth tracking.

To view the results of the prompt tracker, click on the dropdown arrow in the table record, it'll show you the results from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok and Meta. We find your website in both text answers and citations and adjust the visibility score accordingly.

This rescans once per month and provides change data when available. Whenever models change, we update it to the most recent model from each provider.

On service projects, prompt tracking is unlimited and we add prompts for you automatically. On SEO Software projects (accounts that have them), prompts count against your plan's prompt blocks, and you add them yourself.
